Happening Now

Window’s of Faith
Thursday, June 26th
Meet at the church at 11:15 to go to the Cotton Patch in Lake Worth for lunch.  Transportation will be provided.

Trip to the Zoo
Next Sunday, June 29, the Children’s Ministry will be taking a trip to the Zoo after the morning service. All children and their parents are invited. Cost is $6.50 for kids and $9.50 for adults if purchased at Albertson's in advance. We will return around 6:00

What are you willing to sacrifice?
Are you willing to give up anything and everything for Christ? Are you really? In Luke we read these words, “Anyone who comes to me but refuses to let go of father, mother, spouse, children, brothers, sisters—yes, even one's own self!—can't be my disciple.” (14:26 MSG) In 1 John 3:16 we read that we are supposed to lay down our lives for our brothers. How serious are we in our faith? How much do you really want to be a disciple? Are we really concerned about reaching people for Christ?
What does this mean for us then? It means that we need to put Christ first in our lives and in the life of His church. It means giving up our wants and wishes for the sake of the Kingdom. It means loving Him more than our possessions, our country, our family, yes, even our own lives. When we come to church we come to serve and to worship. We come not seeking what we can get, but what we can give. We come not seeking our own way, but willing to submit to Him. We come realizing that we may have to give up what we want in order that others may be reached for Christ. Remember Paul’s words, “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel.” (1 Corinthians 9:22b-23a NIV)
Are you willing to sacrifice even your comfort for the sake of the Gospel? Are you willing to experience new things so that by all possible means some might be saved? God is calling us not to a life of ease and comfort and security but to a life of sacrifice. Are you willing? Really?

Coming Soon

The Children’s Ministry garage sale was quite a success. We raised over $1300 for camp. Thanks to everyone who donated items and helped out Friday and Saturday. You generosity and service is greatly appreciated.

As a reminder, Vacation Bible School starts this Sunday. We’ll begin registration around 5:30. Invite all the kids you know. We still need helpers, so let me know where you’re willing to help. Friday night June 27th will family night. We’ll have an opening assembly, open house and then lots of fun with a bounce house and a dunk tank. VBS is a great opportunity to reach children and their families in White Settlement – be praying now for the kids who attend.

Children’s camp is almost here. We still have room for more kids but we also still need donations. So be in prayer about how you can help send a child to camp – you can make an eternal difference in their life.

We attended this "cooking show" the other day. And something the guy said about our cooking or eating habits really struck me. We often cook food in ways that it loses all or most of the nutrients, and then we need to eat more. He said that bulk will fill you up, but nutrients will satisfy your hunger. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to cook in the microwave and eat at our favorite fast food places.
What really hit me was the way this applies to our walk with Christ. Sometimes, we're looking for more content in our Christian life - more church programs to be involved in, more Bible study or "devotional" time, more prayer. But I think maybe we're missing the point. I think we'd do well to have healthier programs, healthier Bible study, and healthier prayer. It's the old issue of quality versus quantity.
Here is another way to look at it: something that's been coming up a lot in our Youth Bible Study is the "all of your heart" concept. Jesus says the most important commandment is to love the Lord with all of your heart, etc. Proverbs 3:5 says to trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Christ doesn't always want more from us; He wants better from us... and better for us.
So the next time you're looking for a chance to give more to God, stop and think, "Does God really want more from me? Or does He want better from me?"
That's all I've got... now where'd I put the ketchup for my fries?
