News Spotlight

VBS, Outrigger Island, will be June 22 - 27. This is the biggest evangelistic outreach opportunity for children in the area and we need your help!  For more information, please see Gene.

Donations Needed
The Children’s Ministry is having a Garage Sale and they need stuff to sell. If you have any thing you’d like to get rid of, donate it to the Children’s Ministry for the Garage Sale. For more information see Gene Moren.

I took a few days off and traveled to the Hill country for a little R&R. It was really nice and I was reminded of ways
worship was more than just music.
Are you worshipping when you say “please” and “thank you” (1Peter 2:17)? I say that being polite to whom you are talking touches lives. Just look into the eyes of the person and say these magic words. Show genuine sincerity. If we are made in God’s image then we ultimately show respect to our heavenly King by saying “please” and “thank you”. Remember this the next time you say “thank you”.
Have you ever given or done something anonymously? Be stealthy. Give in secret (Matt 6:1-4) Worship is more than what we do on Sunday mornings at 11 am. This world is full of people doing things to be noticed. The “nitty gritty” of life comes when you give in secret not expecting anything in return. Opportunities abound for acts of kindness in secret.
Show your muscle. Help the weak (1 Thess. 5:14). Coming alongside a fellow believer and encouraging them in their faith maybe what you are called to do. Discipleship and mentoring opportunities are all around us with all ages and levels of maturity. Let me challenge you to ask the Lord to show you how to help someone learn to lean more heavily on Him.
Worship must be something we do. Be courteous, say please and thank you knowing you are a reflection of Christ. Be stealthy. Help a believer to be stronger in the faith. This is a way to worship.

May is here and that means that June is right around the corner. We have a couple of big events in June that everyone needs to be involved in. First, we will be having our garage sale on the 6th and 7th and we need items to sell and people to help during the sale. So bring your good, used (or new) items to sell and put them in the building out back. If you do not have an item for the garage sale you may make a cash donation - just be sure to write “Children’s Ministry” on the envelope. All money raised will benefit the children’s department in many, many ways. Second, VBS will be the 22nd through the 27th and we need your help. We need teachers, helpers and food for the workers each night. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the back of the auditorium.
Children’s camp will be July 2 – 6 at Riverbend Retreat center for children in grades 3-6 (Completed). If you have a child, grandchild or friend who may be interested, let me know and I’ll get you all of the information. Also, we need scholarships. Camp cost is $165 and we do not want any child to be excluded because of finances, so any donation amount will be gladly accepted and used to send a child to camp.
Thanks for all of your help and support for our children’s ministry here at FBCWS.

Are you excited about going to church? Really? I am. Of course, you would expect me to say that right? But let me assure you, not all pastors are excited when Sundays roll around or even Wednesday nights. The most exciting thing about coming together on Sundays (in particular) is not knowing what God is going to do. Now don’t get me wrong, I love seeing each of you and spending time with you and hearing about what is going on in your life. But more than that I want to know what God is doing in your life and what He is going to do today, through you. When we come together it should be the most exciting place because we all get the overflow of what God is doing in your life. I thoroughly enjoy getting up and sharing the Word of God each week but what thrills me more is seeing the Holy Spirit move. I want God to use me AND I want Him to use YOU! When that happens then worship is exciting and church is a place you don’t want to miss. Do you think the first century Christians got together daily because they liked the way the disciples cooked fajitas? I’m sure the food was good but what kept them coming back was the power and excitement of God working through them. And that is what will keep us excited about church today!

The retreat was great! I want to talk about the zip line. If you’re not familiar with it, here’s the gist: long metal cable in the air to which you’re attached via safety harness, and you basically jump off a tower and “zip” through the air.
I’ve never been a scaredy cat. But that first jump… man. I locked up. I knew I was going to do it; I had no doubts. I knew the equipment was safe, and I knew the staff was capable. We counted down and I was totally ready to jump… but stalled. I did eventually go for it.
I wonder how many of us are like this in our Christian walk. We’re committed. We’re not going to back out of it. We trust Christ and we know our church is capable of leading us. But we hesitate on the top of some towers that God asks us to jump off of.
Just think about it.
